Maintenance Tips

In order to maintain a good and reliable Internet connection, try the following things:
  • Be sure to keep your settings up to date. On a school computer, you may have to get the IT department to update your software.
  • If other people are using your computer also, changes to the Internet settings and firewall may carry over to your user settings as well. Be sure to keep these consistent among users.
  • Wires over time may become frayed or broken at connection points. Check and replace these as necessary.
  • Connection speed may become slower if more users are on that network. Limiting users on at one time could speed up your connection.
  • Large files or complicated webpages will download slower. Repeatedly hitting the refresh button could slow the entire process more.
  • Stay up to date with the latest options for Internet service providers. There may be a faster, cheaper ISP that you can switch to in your area.
  • Be sure that you have a good Spyware software on your computer. Any viruses or malware that has infected your computer may interrupt Internet connections. Watch this video for more information and tips.
